Scientists have detected two planets colliding around the star Kepler-107, 1,700 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus the Swan.
The dwarf planet Ceres, located in our Asteroid Belt, has been found to contain salty water or "cryomagma" under its surface.
Dwarf Planet: a round solar system object without a clear orbit The Asteroid Belt: A ring of asteroids between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter As if the poor Mars InSight lander has not had enough abuse! Now, its digging instrument to measure heat flow in Mars' crust has hit a hard obstacle.
Astronomers have detected super storms forming in the atmospheres of the distant solar system planets, Uranus and Neptune.
Multiple dusty rings, a prelude to a planetary system, have discovered around a type of failed star called a "Brown Dwarf".
Astronomers have discovered a new satellite around Neptune called Hippocamp. Scientists theorize that this moon may have been broken off of another moon: Proteus.
An Arthurian legend for the modern age, Once and Future tells the story of an immigrant girl who is a female reincarnation of King Arthur who must free the galaxy from the tyrannical Mercer company. This book addresses homosexuality as it should be: not something to be scorned but to be celebrated. Believe it or not, it is also a science fiction story with starships and references to two real planets in our own solar system: Mars and Pluto (ignoring the fact that Pluto is a dwarf planet). Plus, I am just a huge fan of Arthurian literature!
Mars will continue to be in the evening sky sliding eastward through the head of Taurus the Bull. However, you probably won't see much. Even with a good telescope, Mars will appear as a dot. That is because Mars is currently farther away from Earth than it is from the sun. At best, you might be able to make out a bit of the white polar cap.
